A collection of 10 heritage shophouses, The Sultan offers stylish boutique rooms which bring out the old charm of Singapore. With full-length shutter windows and tall columns, all rooms come with free internet and local calls.

Uniquely designed, all rooms feature wooden furnishings, a flat-screen TV and an iPod dock. An electric kettle and personal safe are included. En suite bathrooms are equipped with hot-water showers and a hairdryer.

Located in the heart of Kampong Glam, The Sultan is a 4-minute walk from the Malay Heritage Centre and a 7-minute walk from Lavender MRT Station. It is a 10-minute walk from Bugis Village and a 10-minute drive from Orchard Road.

What was the highlight of The Sultan

Overall it was good for one night for a room to crash in.

Location in the heart of Kampong Glam makes this a very ideal for accessiblity. The historic architecture is also very stunning, especially the scale model of the hotel inside the lobby.

The lack of windows was suffocating. I wasn't aware that there would be no windows in the room I booked. I just needed a bed for the night. I have paid for cheaper rooms that had natural light and ventilation.

Clean, quiet and a good place to explore Singapore with a family.

It was clean and quiet, staff were friendly and it was in a good location, with access to multiple MRTs.

For the price we paid it was great.

A comfortable stay. No sound proofing though.

There is a clean self-service laundry room. Plenty of plants inside the property.

Sound proofing is poor. I can clearly hear the guests next door talking. The headrest of the bed looks very used.

Comfortable option at a reasonable price for Singapore

Room was large and comfortable. Staff were very helpful. Convenient to bus routes.

There was a lot of noise outside, trucks maybe, around 3am. You were also woken by the call to prayer at 5:30am. Access to room was via uncovered walkways so not ideal when raining.

Room is pretty small but ok for money and given the facilities.. The bathroom should have bidet. People smoke just outside of my room. The room doors are heavy.. Some ants crawling on the table. Should give 2 chairs instead of 1.

A decent stay in a spacious but rather smelly room.

The single room is surprisingly spacious for 1 person. The room is clean but old. A lot of great restaurants nearby. About 10 min walk from Lavender MRT.

Room is old. Air con is super old. The room smelled like cigarette smoke even though no one was smoking. It was just the room's smell. Could not sleep well the first night. You can hear showers and water running from the adjacent rooms.

Would love to stay again in The Sultan!

Fantastic location. Kampong Glam area has lots of great food, convenience store nearby. It has a bus stop just right in front of the hotel. MRT stations are also within good walking distance. The hotel is quaint and pretty and despite it's central location, it is very quiet. Hotel and bar staff are all very friendly.

We were informed when we checked in that our room will only be cleaned once - on our second night. I am not sure if this is a standard in Singapore but I believe there's a daily cleaning service in most of the hotels I've stayed in. They do not have a restaurant, just a bar, but I guess that's fine since there are a lot of restaurants nearby.

Stylish hotel, free minibar, comfy bed and good location (near bus stop and 2 different MRT stations, walking distance to a large hawker centre).

Have to remember to switch on the heater for the shower in advance (a bit annoying first thing in the morning).

Great location, gorgeous place

1. The hotel is gorgeous and overall comfortable. Instaworthy if that's what you're looking for. ;) 2. We stayed at the Deluxe Double Room and it was spacious. 3. We had to wait for an hour before we could check in, and to compensate for it, the hotel offered either complimentary desserts or breakfast. We chose the former, which were simply delicious. Thank you! 4. Location is great for Muslim travellers as there are many halal cafés or restaurants nearby. 5. It's also in walking distance from the Nicholl Highway MRT station. I think there are a couple more nearby stations but we went to Nicholl Highway the most. 6. Staff were great. Unfortunately didn't get the name but one staff in particular at the restaurant stood out - he was warm, welcoming, and attentive. Staff at the receptionist were also great. Some others need training for better customer service. 7. I felt secure staying there as there's an automated locked grille for every block. 8. Cat lovers - if you're lucky you'll come across a cute cat they let in for respite. To me if hotel staff are compassionate towards animals, it's a great sign.

1. We stayed at room 222 and the room telephone was too noisy with statics, I could barely hear what the receptionist was saying to me. They had to shout for me to hear clearly. 2. The water pressure in the shower was too strong, and it gave really warm water even though I set it to cold. Perhaps time to recalibrate the heater? 3. This may be minute but the water bottle caps were too tight. We had to get the receptionist to help with our bottles after many attempts. 4. When we went to the in-house restaurant for our complimentary desserts, the staff were discussing with concerns on their face in front of us, and then one of them asked us if we wanted to have the desserts there or in our room, and then repeatedly told us that we could have them in the room. It made us feel unwelcomed at the restaurant, so we asked them if such was the case. She explained that it wasn't, that she was concerned we would be waiting long for the desserts. She could've managed that in a better manner, e.g. Explain the situation and ask once for our preference, and when we have stated our preference, no need to repeat the question as though you're disagreeing with our choice. In short, I suggest staff to be sent for training for better customer service, as their behaviours might give a wrong impression despite their well intention.
